Angelique Mulholland, Dr

Visiting Researcher at University of Cambridge

Angelique is a researcher and educator whose work explores how education and identity shapes interactions with the criminal justice system. With a particular focus on how education can both harm and help people who have experienced the justice system, her forthcoming article, ‘Disrupting the ‘school-to-prison pipeline’? Race, masculinities and navigating fatherhood on the educational margins’ captures how education can shape life narratives both towards and away from crime.

Completing her PhD at the Institute of Education, UCL’s Faculty of Education and Society in 2025, her research since has focussed on a range of areas engaging critically with the intersection of criminal and social justice. This includes a research study focussing on the desistance journeys of people imprisoned abroad (University of Cambridge), a research report evidencing the impact of the creative arts in the justice system (University of Arts London) and delivering a series of critical workshops which explore vulnerability and qualitative research methods (University of Cambridge).

Angelique’s future research projects aim to focus on the impact of creative education on the desistance journeys of ‘hard to reach’ men currently in custody.
