Dr Catherine Wilkinson is a Reader in Childhood and Youth Studies in the School of Education at Liverpool John Moores University and Editor-in-Chief of the international journal Children’s Geographies.
Her research explores the diverse, often overlooked and marginalised experiences of children and young people, with particular interests in ‘other’ childhoods, youth and community, and child- and youth-centred research methodologies. Working across disciplinary boundaries, Catherine draws on creative, participatory and ethnographic approaches to foreground children and young people’s voices, perspectives and lived experiences.
Central to her work is a commitment to challenging dominant narratives of childhood and youth, developing innovative and inclusive research methods, and ensuring that research with children and young people has meaningful impact beyond academia.
