Fadoua Govaerts, Dr

Lecturer at University of Bath

Dr Fadoua Govaerts is a Lecturer in Education at the University of Bath, founder of RE-KnoX (Research in Education – Knowledge Exchange), and Convenor of the ºÚÁÏÍø911 Alternative Education Special Interest Group (SIG). With almost 20 years of experience in education, her work is driven by a commitment to social justice, equity, and decolonising knowledge production.
Her research sits at the intersection of alternative education, scholasticide, decolonial research, and educational justice, with a particular focus on home education, educational exclusion, and the experiences of learners and educators during a genocide. Where possible she employs participatory research methodologies that position children and young people as active partners in the research process, ensuring their voices shape research, policy, and practice. Beyond academia, Fadoua is the Director of 80Plus, a charity that provides scholarship opportunities for students in Gaza. She also leads a local supplementary school dedicated to preserving and promoting language, culture, heritage, and identity within the community. In addition, she trains supplementary school teachers in the fundamental principles of effective teaching and learning. As a certified LEGO® Serious Play® facilitator, Fadoua uses creative and collaborative approaches to support learning, research, leadership, and community engagement. Through her academic, professional, and community work, she continues to champion more inclusive, equitable, and transformative educational futures.
