Tanya Evans is a part-time doctoral candidate at the University of Lancashire in the School of Psychology and Humanities. Her doctoral research qualitatively explores the lived experiences of inspection for general further education (GFE) college teachers and leaders.
Tanya’s research seeks to amplify the voices of those working in GFE colleges to contribute to the body of scholarship examining Ofsted’s inspection practices and their implications for educational professionals. Drawing on sociological and hermeneutic phenomenological perspectives the research explores the experiences of GFE educational professionals by examining how teachers and leaders make sense of their experiences of Ofsted as an external quality assurance mechanism, and how these experiences influence their feelings and opinions of Ofsted’s role, purpose and impact.
The research contributes to ongoing discussions surrounding accountability, surveillance, quality assurance, and professional identity offering insights into how inspection is experienced by those working within GFE colleges specifically.
