Diane Delaney, Dr

PhD graduate at University of Strathclyde

Diane Delaney is a public health and health policy PhD graduate from the University of Strathclyde, with research focusing on the role and value of parents/carers as they interact with professionals in Scotland, regarding the health, wellbeing and development of their children aged three to five years old. Her research explores how parents’ lived experiences intersect with professional practice to support equity and family wellbeing. Drawing on more than 27 years of experience across health, social care and education, her work is situated within Scottish policy frameworks that emphasise partnership working and parental engagement. Her PhD findings identified that, despite strong policy ambitions to support parents, the realities for both parents and professionals sometimes diverged, resulting in unmet needs for the wider family. She is also co-founder of the Give Them Time campaign, which contributed to legislative change in 2023 ensuring equitable access to deferred school start funding for eligible four-year-olds.
