Dr Karamat Iqbal has worked in equalities and education for more than 40 years. This has included work as a local authority schools adviser and a consultant to various government departments, including the Department for Education.
Karamat has had a longstanding commitment to improving education of disadvantaged young people. One of his reports was used as the main text for a parliamentary debate on education of White working-class children. His doctoral research was published as ‘British Pakistani boys, education and the role of religion: In the land of the Trojan Horse’. His most recent work was an edited collection (with Tahir Abbas): Ethnicity, Religion and Muslim Education in a Changing World: Navigating Contemporary Perspectives on Multicultural Schooling in the UK.
