As a Foundation Learning Lecturer at Cardiff and Vale College, I work directly with learners with physical disabilities, learning disabilities, additional learning needs and other barriers to education. As a former wheelchair user now living with an invisible disability, I bring a distinctive perspective shaped by both personal and professional experiences of disability.
My academic work centres on the Diverse Model of Disability, a theoretical framework I developed to explore the relationships between impairment, identity, lived experience, social structures and environmental barriers. Drawing on medical, social and biopsychosocial perspectives through an intersectional lens, the model challenges deficit-based approaches and seeks to inform inclusive educational policy and practice.
I am undertaking a Professional Doctorate (DProf) at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David, focusing on the continued theoretical development of my model through lived experiences and reflexivity.
