Maia Shillam is a third-year undergraduate student at the University of Plymouth (UK) studying Biological Sciences. She is currently undertaking her final year research project, where she is testing the microplastic fallout of ‘bioplastic’ teabags in soil and the adverse effects this may have on organisms, specifically earthworms. Once her studies are complete, she hopes to train to become a clinical scientist, specialising in embryology.
