Sara Jackson is a Senior Lecturer in Education at The University of Manchester, where she teaches across the BSc Education programme and teacher education programmes within the Manchester Institute of Education. Sara began her career in scientific research as a molecular biologist before moving into secondary education, where she taught science and held leadership roles in teaching and learning. This experience continues to shape her interest in science learning beyond the classroom, and in how everyday places and experiences can spark curiosity, confidence and a sense of belonging.
Sara鈥檚 current work focuses particularly on working alongside Elective Home Education (EHE) families, exploring how universities and cultural organisations can create more inclusive opportunities for learning beyond conventional school settings. Through the Curiosity Catalyst project, she works with families, parent educators, Manchester Museum and other cultural partners to co-design practical, place-based and digitally supported learning opportunities that connect learning across home, community and cultural spaces.
Her wider interests centre on science and alternative education, informal and community learning, and the role universities can play in supporting learning beyond conventional educational settings. At the heart of her work is a commitment to co-design and learning with communities, recognising families as partners in education and building on their interests, experiences and expertise.
